The course aims to provide the deck officers with the comprehensive knowledge in Heavy Lift Cargo Handling And Operation

Intended Learning Outcome/s

After the training/assessment, the participant/s shall be able to:

  • Assess the condition for safe loading and discharging of heavy lift cargoes
  • Calculate the maximum load per crane when working with dual crane operation
  • Calculate the maximum heel during loading and discharging and the effect of stability
  • Describe the effects on ship stability when there is shift of center of gravity on the transverse and vertical shift
  • Describe the types of crane
  • Describe the lifting equipment used in the heavy lift operation
  • Produce documents in terms of stability condition
  • Calculate the stresses acting on the stowage position and bedding arrangement of the cargo.
  • Calculate the forces acting on the cargo during the voyage and lashing arrangement to counter such forces
  • Calculate the external forces affecting the cargo utilizing the Advance Calculation Method
  • Integrate Colos Stability Computer Program and Stowage Plan
  • Discuss the forces acting on the cargo are different stowage position and stresses acting on the securing and lashing arrangement
  • Discuss the Toolbox meeting and conduct lifting plan
  • Discuss loading and discharging of different types of heavy cargoes in single and tandem crane
