Operational Level Officer Deck Training Program
International shipping demands well-trained, competent seafarers to man ships. UMTC is committed to providing high achievers from our partner schools in the Philippines and training them to high standards to meet the requirements of the industry.
TRAINING PROGRAM
UMTC offers a structured training program following a framework for controlled accelerated promotion.
Classroom lectures, practical activities, audio-visual presentations and computer-based simulations are utilized to train program trainees and shape them into highly capable officers.
This is only possible through the faculty members’ expertise and knowledge of the maritime industry and complemented by required tools and equipment for practical activities. These top-caliber instructors are instrumental in ensuring the trainees under their charge to obtain the skills in mastering the latest technology and industry operations.
We provide a holistic approach to our programs including values formation and qualities that will define every trainee and make them leaders in the maritime industry.
BRIDGING THE EDUCATION GAP FROM SCHOOL TO WORK
We provide bridging training to enable BSMT graduates to fast track through the ranks to Captain. The Training Program consists of theoretical, technical and practical training to ensure the Cadet has the best underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for a Junior Officer onboard a merchant vessel.
The program is split into 3 phases: Pre-sea Training, which is preparatory training enabling them to go onboard and understudy the Deck Officers. Then a 6-9-month contract onboard a vessel to understudy and apply what they learned in college and during the Pre-sea phase. The next phase is a comprehensive block training culminating in a Competency Assessment that tests their ability, aptitude and confidence to maintain a safe navigational watch as the Officer of the Watch.
PROGRAM DURATION:
Pre-sea Training: 50 days
On-board Training: 6-9 months
Jr. Officer Training: 113 days
