Rope Works and Splicing for Ratings

This course provides theoretical and practical training to enhance trainees’ marlinspike seamanship skills, meeting the requirements prescribed in sections of Table A-II/5 of the STCW course as amended.

Training Outcome/s:

After the training, the participants must be able to:

• Perform safe working practices
• Identify the type of ropes
• Tie different type of knots
• Tie hitches
• Make bends
• Whip and seize fiber ropes
• Splice three-strand natural and synthetic fiber rope
• Splice eight-strand synthetic fiber rope

Qualifications:

All seafarers.
