Practical Deck Skills
The course is designed to facilitate the delivery of competence of practical deck skills in seamanship for prospective officers during their first training block program and for deck crew.
Training Outcome/s
After the training, the participants must be able to:
- Demonstrate safe working practices
- Tie knots
- Tie bends
- Tie hitches
- Splice three-strand synthetic fiber rope
- Splice eight-strand synthetic fiber rope
- Apply safety practices during work at heights
- Create a permit to work system
- Rig and unrig a stage board and bosun chair
- Setup scaffolding
- Apply safety practices when rigging and unrigging pilot ladder
- Prepare pilot ladder for boarding
- Prepare and maintain deck surfaces
- Take and record draft marks
- Conduct mooring and anchoring operations
Qualifications:
Prospective Deck Officers and Deck boys.
