UMTC Launches Pilot Run of Indian Cuisine Training
The United Marine Training Center (UMTC) has embarked on an exciting new program offering a pilot course to train qualified ship cooks in Indian cuisine. This course aims to enhance the culinary skills of maritime cooks, equipping them with the knowledge and expertise to prepare a vast array of Indian dishes, thereby diversifying their culinary repertoire and improving the dining experience on board ships.
Aside from mastering Indian recipes, the 5-day course is also an immersive journey into the heart and soul of Indian culinary traditions. Participants embarked on a comprehensive exploration of the art of flavor balancing and the mastery of cooking techniques that define India's diverse regional cuisines.
Cultural Understanding and Enrichment
UMTC's initiative serves as a platform for cultural exchange and understanding. Participants delve into each dish's historical and cultural significance, gaining a deeper appreciation for the traditions that shape Indian cuisine.
Practical Learning Experience
The highlight of the course is its direct approach, ensuring that participants not only understand the theory but also gain practical proficiency in the kitchen. Under the instruction of the Culinary Training Manager and experienced Chef in Indian Cuisine, Joey Pante, trainees prepared authentic Indian dishes and breads while learning the strict implementation of food safety and sanitation.
Beyond Culinary Realm
UMTC equips the trainees with culinary skills and enhances their knowledge by providing insights into kitchen management, menu planning, and the diversity of crew and customers. This empowers seafarers to carve out successful careers as Chief Cooks onboard.
In a world where culinary arts bridge cultures and communities, UMTC's Indian Cuisine Training is a testament to the power of education, empowerment, and cultural celebration. The pilot program continues to inspire and uplift, heralding a new era of inclusivity and diversity.
