UMTC Holds Basketball League Opening Rites for the First Time in Three Years

After more than three years of hiatus, the United Marine Training Center (UMTC) heralded the return of the UMTC Basketball League (UBL) with momentous Season 8 opening rites on Wednesday, 29 March 2023. The league's return was eagerly awaited by both players and participating teams in the industry.

UMTC President Antonio Galvez Jr. welcomed the public by highlighting the league's resiliency to keep the spirit of this friendly competition and expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants for making this happen after a long break.

He also emphasized the importance of sports and how it promotes a healthy lifestyle, camaraderie, and discipline. While Marlow Navigation CEO for Operations, Capt. Leo Tenorio formally declares the opening of UBL Season 8 followed by Oath of Sportsmanship led by Engr. Donald Bautista, Managing Director of UMTC and one of the company’s basketball team players.

Players and their muses were in full force to represent and support their team as they graced the opening ceremonies with their presence and enthusiasm.

During the event, UMTC Muse Ms. Mikee Camello was awarded as the best Muse of the season after her fiery stand for UMTC Basketball Team who also got the Best in Uniform Award. After the ceremonial rites, UMTC and MNPI kick-off the league with UMTC winning the intense game with an impressive score of 60-58, followed by a close match in favor of Soliman vs. PDSCI with a score of 89-81.

The resumption of the UMTC's basketball league provides an opportunity for employees to engage in physical activities and foster camaraderie, which are important aspects of work-life balance and career development. It also serves as a venue for the maritime industry's family members to celebrate and bond over sportsmanship, healthy competition, and mutual respect. The next games will surely offer exciting and challenging matches as the teams compete for the championship title.
