Raising the Standard: Commitment to Competency Assessment
UMTC has provided world-class education and hands-on training to aspiring professionals for years. As a TESDA-accredited Assessment Center, it extends the commitment beyond training by formally evaluating and certifying skilled workers. Individuals who wish to obtain national certification in these specialized fields can undergo a rigorous assessment process at UMTC, ensuring they meet the industry’s competency standards.
TESDA Assessment for Welding Specializations
Welding is vital in various industries, including shipbuilding, manufacturing, and construction. With the accreditation for SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW NC II, UMTC is now fully equipped to assess welders who aspire to obtain TESDA certification in these key welding techniques.

- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II – One of the most used welding processes, SMAW is essential in structural welding, ship repair, and metal fabrication. The assessment ensures candidates demonstrate proficiency in arc welding operations, workpiece preparation, and safety procedures
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) NC II - is widely used in the automotive, aerospace, and construction industries. Candidates must showcase their ability to handle GMAW equipment, execute high-quality welds, and apply proper welding techniques through our assessment.
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) NC II - Commonly known as TIG welding, GTAW requires precision and skill, making it ideal for stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic metal applications. The assessment evaluates candidates' ability to control heat, maintain proper shielding, and execute defect-free welds.

By offering these assessments, UMTC upholds TESDA’s strict competency standards and helps skilled workers enhance their career prospects by obtaining nationally recognized certifications.
TESDA Assessment for Ship’s Catering Services NC I
A nourished crew is a productive and motivated crew. The role of the ship’s catering personnel is crucial in ensuring proper nutrition, hygiene, and meal planning for seafarers. The center’s Ship’s Catering Services NC I assessment will certify individuals with the knowledge and skills to perform onboard vessels' food preparation, cooking, and sanitation duties.
The assessment process ensures that candidates:
- Demonstrate proficiency in messhall services
- Perform housekeeping services
- Maintain proper hygiene, kitchen management, and storage practices.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic onboard environment.

With this certification, ship cooks and catering personnel can improve their employability in the maritime industry, as it validates their ability to meet the highest food service standards.
The Importance of TESDA Certification
TESDA certification is more than just a credential—it empowers an individual’s expertise and competency. Both locally and internationally, employers recognize TESDA-accredited certificates as proof that a candidate has undergone rigorous assessment and meets the required industry standards.
By becoming a TESDA-accredited Assessment Center, UMTC provides professionals and aspiring workers with valuable opportunities to advance their careers. The accredited assessments are designed to be fair, transparent, and aligned with the best global practices, ensuring that every certified individual is fully equipped to perform their job confidently and competently.
