United Marine Training Center (UMTC) is proud to have been selected as one of the training partners by the International Maritime Employers' Council Ltd. (IMEC) for its first-ever Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Program globally. This milestone addresses the global shortage of ETOs in the maritime industry.
Last July, IMEC representatives Francesco Garguilo (CEO), Rob Gale (Head of Training), and Elmer Palumbarit (External Engineering Consultant) embarked on a detailed review of several maritime training centers across the Philippines to identify partners capable of delivering a world-class ETO training program and meticulously assessing the quality of training facilities, the expertise of instructors, and the comprehensiveness of program offerings. During its visit to UMTC, Donald Bautista (Managing Director) and Judie Kallio (Sales and Business Development Manager) welcomed the delegation, guiding them through an in-depth presentation of our ETO training program.
The presentation covered every stage of our training process, from the rigorous selection phase to the structured, hands-on training and the onboarding of graduates into the maritime workforce. IMEC representatives also learned about the supplementary well-being activities UMTC provides, designed to nurture all trainees' mental and physical health and ensure their holistic development as future Electro-Technical Officers.
IMEC’s focus on excellence was evident as they evaluated each aspect of the program, and in October, UMTC was thrilled to receive its official announcement. IMEC expressed its firm confidence not only in the quality of the facilities and proficiency of instructors but also in the exceptional results UMTC has consistently delivered, as evidenced by the competence and professionalism of the ETOs it has produced.
As UMTC prepares to welcome 36 future IMEC Electro-Technical Officers in 2025, it takes immense pride in the recognition the training center has earned. It is electrified to equip the maritime industry with highly trained ETOs prepared to meet the growing demands of the global fleet.
