In a significant move towards advancing eco-friendly practices in maritime operations, the United Marine Training Center (UMTC) and Green Marine have officially announced their partnership to provide specialized training in Methanol Dual Fuel technology with basic and advanced IGF courses.
The signing ceremony took place in the UMTC Building on 11 April 2024 between the UMTC Management and Green Marine represented by Morten Jacobsen (CEO), Joakim Bondesen (Chief Legal Officer), and Donnie Bagang (Managing Director).
The partnership aims to address the increasing demand for a skilled workforce capable of operating methanol-fueled vessels, which provide a more sustainable alternative to traditional marine fuels. Since environmental concerns are becoming increasingly important in global maritime regulations, the need for training programs tailored to alternative fuel technologies has become paramount.
As part of the collaboration, Green Marine provided a Methanol Engine at UMTC to fully-equipped the course with actual equipment and machinery used on board.
Methanol Dual Fuel systems enable vessels to operate on a blend of methanol and conventional marine fuels, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants. As governments worldwide enact stricter emissions standards, the adoption of alternative fuels like methanol has emerged as a promising pathway toward achieving decarbonization goals in the shipping sector.
Engine participants will receive practical insights into the operation and maintenance of methanol-powered vessels through simulations and theoretical instruction, promoting safe and efficient maritime operations.
As sustainability continues to drive innovation in the maritime industry, the UMTC and Green Marine partnership allows stakeholders to position themselves as the lead of the transition toward a greener future for shipping.
