Securing of General and Heavy Lift Cargoes for Officers
The course is designed to create competence for marine deck officers on the safe stowage and securing of general and heavy lift cargoes. It provides the participants with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in accordance with the best industry practices.
Training Outcome/s:
After the training/assessment, the participant/s shall be able to:
- Determine the ships` structural elements for the carriage of general and heavy lift cargoes.
- Determine the general principles of cargo stowage in relation to the vessel`s permissible area load.
- Determine the bedding arrangement in relation to stowage position of the cargo and materials to use.
- Determine characteristics and proper handling of the different lashing materials.
- Identify the required documents for the carriage of general cargoes.
- Decide whether to accept or reject a cargo for transport.
- Use of lifting gears, devices and equipment.
- Apply the proper maintenance of lashing materials and inspection procedures of lashing arrangements during the voyage.
- Calculate the forces affecting the cargo during the sea voyage and plan appropriate lashing arrangement and
- Demonstrate the proper setting of the securing and lashing arrangement for different types of general cargoes.
