Electro-Technical Rating Practical Assessment
This MARINA-approved assessment package is a competency-based practical assessment provided to candidates for certification as Electro-Technical Rating on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power. It covers the standard of competence specified in Section A-III/7 of the STCW Code following the rules and mandatory minimum requirements in the assessment of competence of Electro-Technical Ratings as stated in the MARINA STCW Circular No. 2017-07.
Intended Learning Outcome/s
After the training/assessment, the participant/s shall be able to:
- Execute a job-order under the Planned Maintenance System based on manufacturer’s safety guidelines and shipboard instructions.
- Fill-Out a Work Permit including isolation logs and risk assessment for working aloft and enclosed space entry.
- Apply safe working practices.
- Perform test procedures of ship’s fire detection system including the operation of electrical and electronic equipment in flammable areas;
- Demonstrate the methods for testing, fault finding, maintenance and restoration of electrical control equipment and machinery to operating condition;
- Apply Isolation procedures prior using hand tools, electrical and electronic measurement equipment;
- Perform maintenance and repair of lighting fixtures and supply systems; and
- Apply measures to prevent damage to machinery equipment.

- Interpret electro-technical drawings.
- Perform test procedures on electrical equipment or machinery.
- Record the electrical parameters of the following systems.
- Prime movers, including main propulsion plant.
- Engine-room auxiliary machinery.
- Steering systems.
- Cargo handling systems.
- Deck machinery.
- Hotel systems.
- Perform safe handling and securing of stores;
- Apply lifting techniques and methods to prevent back injury; and
- Use of lubrication charts and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in the preparation of maintenance materials and its proper disposal.
